Pokhara
Pokhara is Nepal's second most popular tourist destinations
after Kathmandu. Lying at a modest attitude of 820 m, Pokhara is
backed by an amazing wall of mountains that rise to a
cloud-piercing 8000 m to the north. The city does have two
unique features that attract any travelers- the lake of Phewa
and a backdrop of Mt. Machhapuchhare and Mt. Annapurnas soaring
in the sky above the green Pokhara Valley. Best of all is Mt.
Machhapuchhare, seen from here as a graceful pyramid with a
needle-sharp peak.
Dhulikhel
Situated
at about 30 miles covered in 45 minute drive to the east of
Kathmandu on the Arniko highway, lies a small town of Dhulikhel.
Nestled in the laps of Himalayas, the place offers a
breathtaking view of the northeastern part of the mountains.
Dhulikhel at a height of 1550m is host to some beautiful
buildings. The local people living there are called Newars.
Built in Victorian style, the four to five storyed brick
mansions in the town are an architectural delight and
accommodate close traditional Newar settlement.
Sarangkot
Sarangkot
is located to the north of the Pokhara Valley. The area carries
historical significance, and its name is derived from the Magar
language. Most people prefer to walk up the gentle slopes,
enjoying the mountain views and, as one reaches higher, the
views of the lake and township are especially spectacular from
here. The hilltop is also accessible by road, a barely 25-minute
drive. Sarangkot is a popular take-off point for paragliders.
Nagarkot
It
is one of the most popular mountain resort destinations in the
Kathmandu Valley rim. Located 30 km east of Kathmandu, Nagarkot
is a magnificent place to spend the night and awaken to view the
sun
rising across the wide Himalayan range. It is also the starting
point
of the valley rim trek for those who are in Nepal for short
stay.
Chitwan
Chitwan is known for the most attractive national park located
at southern lowland region of Nepal. The park has wide varieties
of wildlife offering people from across the world an opportunity
to observe beautiful flora and fauna. Here, one can see very
rare endangered species like one-horned rhinos, sloth, wild
boars leopards, crocodiles and more than 500 species of birds.
Lumbini
The birthplace of Lord Buddha lies in the lowland south west of
Kathmandu. It is a sacred place for Buddhists from all over the
world, standing on an equal footing with holy places sacred to
other world religions. As millions of Christians look to
Jerusalem for inspiration, as millions of Muslims turn to Mecca,
so do three hundred million Buddhists visit Lumbini.
Daman
Situated at 2100 m above sea level and 80 km south-west of
Kathmandu, Daman offers a panoramic view of the Himalayan peaks
from Mt. Everest Cho Oyu in the east to Dhaulagiri and Annapurna
III in the west. Green valleys with rolling hill create a
peaceful countryside setting while silvery rivulets meander
though the valleys. One day trek to Bhimphedi and Kulekhani is
an added activity to have a fine glimpse of Nepalese village
life. |
