The
Bardia National Park is spread over 968 sq km and located in the
western Terai on the eastern bank of the River Karnali. The park
is the largest and most undistributed protected area in the
Terai and is home to the endangered Royal Bengal tiger and
Nepal’s famous one-horned rhinoceros. It is thickly forested by
Sal trees, glass lands, savannah and riverine forest. The park
hosts 30 different mammals, more than 250 species of birds, and
several varieties of reptiles and water animals. Some of the
other animals found here are elephant, swamp deer, blackbuck,
glacial crocodile and marsh mugger crocodile, birds include
endangered varieties of Bengal florican lesser flarican, silver
eared mesia and sarus crane.
Access: The best way to reach the park is via Nepalgunj which is
connected by air and road from capital and other cities in the
west.
